Authors and Illustrators

Here are a few of our favorite authors and illustrators.  We love to learn about the people responsible for our favorite books.  Make sure you click the link beside each picture to visit their web page.




 

Margery Cuyler has written lots of great picture books.  We enjoyed doing some "kindness" homework when reading Kindness is Cooler, Mrs. Ruler!


 Kevin Henkes has written and illustrated many picture books over the years.  We really like reading all of his mouse books!

 Maryann Cocca Leffler is another of our favorites.  We loved reading about Mr. Tannen and his ties.  You know it is always better to give than to receive.

Eric Carle  Kindergarten students love to learn about the work of Eric Carle.  We loved watching him create his pictures in his video, "Eric Carle:  Picture Writer."

Patricia Polacco   1st and 2nd graders love Patricia Polacco's books.  They teach us about different cultures and sometimes they even make us cry.

 Jerry Pinkney  Jerry Pinckney's pictures really seem to come to life.  If you look carefully you can see his pencil marks underneath the watercolors.

Jan Brett  Jan Brett's books are fun to read.  Make sure you look at all of the pictures, not just the center illustration! 

Leo Lionni  Mr. Lionni wrote lots of books about animals.  Did you know that he had lots of animals as pets when he was a  young boy?

Robert Munsch  Robert Munsch is one of our favorite authors at BLPS.  Some of his books are very funny.  He also wrote Love You Forever.

Tomie dePaola  Tomie writes and illustrates wonderful stories.  Remember to always look for the red heart in his illustrations.

Margie Palatini Mrs. Palatini writes lots of funny books.  We loved Piggie Pie the best.  Her website is cool too, check it out.

Kate DiCamillo Kate is the author of many great chapter books.  We have talked about "reading" them using audio books.  She also has some easy chapter books about a pig named Mercy Watson.

Keiko Kasza has written many funny books.  We watched her talk about her latest book, The Dog Who Cried Wolf on our book fair video.

Mo Willems is a very talented author and illustrator.  His book, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus won the South Carolina Picture Book Award last year.  We like Knuffle Bunny too!

Pamela Duncan Edwards is another author we love.  Its fun to try to find the hidden letters in her alphabet books.  Some Smug Slug, Clara Caterpillar, and Rosie's Roses  are great!

Kelly DiPucchio is a very funny lady.  We loved reading her "life story" on her website.  It was fun to use our "little runt" voices when we read her book, Bed Hogs! 

 Frederick and Patricia McKissack have written many books together.  We really liked reading Mrs. McKissack's new book, Precious and the Boo Hag.  We even learned a new word when we discussed it.  Do you know what a "cautionary" tale is?
