We have 3 School-wide Rules at BLPS.
Be Safe
Be Responsible
Be Respectful
....but what do those rules mean in the Library Media Center?
Be Safe means...
a. Walk in the library.
b. Keep placeholders still by your side—never run or hit with them.
c. Always come to the library with a pass if you are not with your class.
d. Sign in and out so that teachers will know where you are.
Be Responsible means...
a. Return your library books on time.
b. Take care of library materials so that everyone can enjoy them.
c. Check out books in your name only.
d. Return books to the book drop ONLY, not to the counters or carts.
e. To avoid accidents, use the restroom in your classroom before leaving for Library. There are no restrooms in the Media Center.
Be Respectful means...
a. Listen to the Teacher or Assistant and follow directions the first time they are given.
b. Speak in a quiet voice. There are no walls in the library so your talking may disturb others.
c. Absolutely no talking in line. We line up in the hallway which is a “quiet zone” in our school.
d. Respect the library property so that we can enjoy the books, materials, characters, puppets, computers, and other items for many more years.
e. Raise your hand and wait to be called on before speaking. Please do not interrupt the story or lesson unless it is an emergency
f. Keep placeholders by your side and quiet when walking or browsing.
g. Take pride in the neatness of your library. Straighten shelves after you find your book and make sure all spines are facing out.
h. If you find items that don't belong (paper, ids, place holders) in the shelves please put these items in their proper place or give them to Mrs. Bedenbaugh.

General Information
Library Fees
If your child has a lost or damaged book from a past year at BLPS you must pay that fine before he/ she will be allowed to check out this school year. It is important for students to check out library books so that they can practice responsibility and strengthen the reading skills they are learning in the classroom. Please work with us to help teach your child how to take care of and keep up with their books. Restricting check-out privileges for your child hinders their ability to learn these valuable life skills.
Library Limits
K-4 and K-5 students are allowed to check out one book and 1st and 2nd graders are allowed to check out two books each. Books may be kept for two weeks. Students should turn in books to the library and not to their classrooms. Books are not considered “in” unless they have been processed through the library (classroom book return baskets may not be turned in daily). Books should be placed inside the book drop on the right side of the circulation desk.**
Internet Policy
Each child was given an Internet Acceptable Use Policy at registration. The final pagemust be filled out and returned before he/she will be allowed to use the Internet. There are many worthwhile, educational, and fun projects that use the Internet. Please return these forms to your child’s classroom teacher as soon as possible. If you have filled out a form in the past you will not need to complete a new one. You may call the office or email the Media Center if you are unsure about whether your child has already turned in this form
