Meet your BLPS Media Center Staff

The media center serves as the information center of our school. Our students MUST become powerful users of information if they are to be successful in the world of the 21st century in which they live. Students will be encouraged to use the media center regularly to do research, read for pleasure, and conduct learning activities. We encourage you to support our efforts to help our students become “lifelong learners” and through regular library use.
Amy Bedenbaugh, Media Specialist
My name is Amy Bedenbaugh, and I am the Media Specialist at Batesburg-Leesville Primary. I am a lifelong resident of Batesburg-Leesville and a product of Lexington County School District #3. I am currently in my 13th year as an educator and my 9th year as a Media Specialist. In my spare time I enjoy reading and exercising. My husband Andy, a Realtor with Shealy Realty, and I have three children: Hunter (10), Caroline (8), and Catherine (6). They attend B-L Elementary and B-L Primary Schools.
I am proud to live, work, and raise my children in this wonderful community.
I really enjoy my job because I get to share my love of reading with my students and help them learn through research and technology. I serve all students at the school from the 3 year olds to the 2nd graders.
In Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten I focus on establishing a love of literature with the students. In K-4 we focus on one theme per month and rotate around to three areas all relating to that theme: reading, writing, and working on computers. In K-5 we read lots of brand new books and some old favorites and learn about famous authors and illustrators.
For the older students I continue storytimes, but add lessons on using the library and technology. I also work with 1st and 2nd grade teachers to integrate technology in to their curriculum. Students are taught one "technology skill" per month that they can practice in the lab, classroom, or at home. Many teachers also bring their classes to work on collaborative research projects that help students "dig deeper" into the curriculum and make real-world connections. Currently I teach lessons on: Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Publisher, InfoCentre Patron, and the Student Links section of our school web page.

Dee Stewart, Media Assistant/ Circulation 2009-2010 dstewart@lex3.k12.sc.us |
Mrs. Stewart is our new Media Assistant. She helps with classes and is in charge of library circulation. Mrs. Stewart has been a K-5 assistant and Substitute Teacher for several years so she was already familiar with many of our library procedures. I am proud to have her as a partner in the Library Media Center this year.
